A 150-gram merino and nylon blend — fine 17.5 micron wool for the warmth and the odour resistance wool gives you for free, spun with 37.5 nylon so it dries fast and survives being worn hard. That combination is the whole argument for a merino base layer over a synthetic one: you can wear it several days running and it stays civil. Black is the plainest of the three, and the one that reads as ordinary clothing away from the field.
