Sordin
Supreme Pro-X, Green
$349
Riley's ears. Green cups on the camo textile headband, the Swedish standard for electronic hearing protection.
Sordin's level-dependent earmuff, built in Sweden for hunting and shooting and worn on ranges everywhere for its ruggedness and the fact that it stays comfortable all day. The cups are slim, so they clear a rifle stock and seal around glasses, and they still attenuate well: NRR 21, SNR 28. The electronics are the point. The microphones pass ambient sound through with enough directionality that you can tell where a voice or a shot came from without lifting a cup, amplification is capped at 82 dB(A), and SordinHEAR2 gives four audio profiles, Hunter, Focus, Shooter and Ambient off, from push buttons on the cup. IP67: waterproof microphones and battery compartment. A 3.5 mm AUX input for a radio or a phone, roughly 400 hours on a set of batteries, automatic switch-off after four hours, a low-battery warning, and a five-year warranty. 314 g. Folds.
